We teamed up with MomsRising to tackle a big challenge: New Hampshire’s complicated childcare laws.
Our goal?
Craft an explainer video that cleared up the confusion surrounding the Child Care for NH Working Families Act.
And made sense to everyone— from parents running on too little sleep to legislators with too little time.
The impact? It was huge.
The animated video we created with Imaginary Lava helped us secure and WIN the legislation we were hoping to pass!
New Hampshire invested $60.5 million into childcare over the next two years (more than double the highest amount ever allocated) including funding for all the provisions of the Child Care for New Hampshire Working Families Act – namely, the change that our video sought to explain.

The Challenge
Imagine trying to make sense of dense legislation when you’re either a busy parent or a legislator with a part-time salary and a full-time job’s worth of reading.
That was the reality in New Hampshire, which has the third largest legislature in the world – with over 30% of its membership being brand new every two years.
We needed to do a lot of catching up to speed and educating on the issues very quickly. And in a digestible way.
Especially since the laws were dense, filled with jargon that obscured their profound impact on families across the state.
So our challenge was not only to inform and clarify, but to also engage and inspire action.
Our Approach
We set to work, crafting a narrative that was as informative as it was engaging.
We knew we needed to keep it simple. While also being caring and supportive,
So, we took complex policy language and turned it into something anyone could understand. We focused on the real, personal stories — how these laws affect real families and real providers.
Our goal was to make the complex simple and the legislative personal.

The Impact
Our video became a pivotal tool in the legislative process, illuminating the need and benefits of the Child Care for NH Working Families Act – but for a broad audience.
It transformed policy details into stories of real-world impact, making the stakes clear and the call to action compelling.
However our video didn’t just explain the legislation – it actually helped pass it!
With the new law, childcare became more accessible and affordable to those who were struggling the most.
We’re talking about a significant ease in financial pressure and stress for THOUSANDS of families across New Hampshire.
The legislation we passed this year is REALLY going to help families. We simplified our childcare scholarship program and made it more accessible and affordable for families.
Low-income families will pay a max of 7% of their income on child care costs, saving some folks THOUSANDS of dollars a year. This matters!

Looking Back and Ahead
This project was about more than just making a video.
It was about providing clarity on an issue that impacts many. And a testament to what can happen when we use storytelling to not only convey information, but to catalyze change.
